*For Dakota and Nakota dialect speakers simply change the “L” with “D” or “N”.  For example: Lekší (Lakota), Dekší  (Dakota), Nekší (Nakota)

**When meeting someone for the first time one would greet each other using the correct “cousin” gender term.  If they discovered they were related, or they were to become snags, a different kinship, or relationship, term was used.
