On January 8th, President Obama announced his proposal to make the first two years of community college free. Earlier today, the White House confirmed that tribal colleges will be included in the community college initiative.

Tribal colleges are tribally-driven institutions of higher education that award predominately 2-year associate degrees and certificates serving predominately American Indian students. There are currently 37 Tribal colleges.

President Barack Obama will formally announce his proposal later today at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville, Tennessee. Congress would need to approve the proposal.
