Standing Rock Sioux Chairman Calls on President Obama to Grant Clemency for Leonard Peltier

The Chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, Dave Archambault II, is calling on President Obama to grant executive clemency for Leonard Peltier.

I write to urge you to consider executive clemency for Leonard Peltier. You have appreciated, more than any President in recent memory, the tumultuous history of Native American tribes, and the tragic events derived from that history. Mr. Peltier has been in prison for 41 years, for a tragic event that took place during troubled times. He is in ill health; requires urgent, specialized medical treatment; and just lost his youngest son. Continued incarceration serves no purpose.” — Dave Archambault II, Tribal Chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux

Leonard Peltier of the American Indian Movement was convicted of killing two FBI agents during a shootout on South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in 1975. Leonard Peltier and millions around the world have long maintained his innocence.

To support clemency for Leonard Peltier call the White House at 202-456-1111 or go to website and spread the word widely.
